Aircuity Engages with the GSA in their “Green Proving Ground” Program

Aircuity brings Demand Control Ventilation to the largest GSA asset in the Caribbean

NEWTON, Mass., USA – May 31, 2012 – Aircuity, the smart airside efficiency company, announced today that the Federico Degetau Federal Building in the Hato Rey section of San Juan, Puerto Rico will deploy the OptiNet system in their office building and courthouse to improve energy efficiency by implementing Demand Control Ventilation (DCV). Representing the largest U.S General Services Administration (GSA) owned asset in the Caribbean, the 350,000 square foot federal building houses a number of federal agencies, including the FBI. The Degetau Building is part of the GSA Green Proving Ground Program, which evaluates innovative sustainable building technologies and aims to help lead market transformation through their deployment. To date Aircuity’s OptiNet system has been deployed in three GSA buildings across the United States.

Federal agencies face many challenges regarding the implementation and integration of multiple laws, regulations, presidential directives, and other federal policies for meeting energy efficiency and sustainability goals. At the same time, they have limited budgets and ongoing pressure to reduce costs. To help meet all of these challenges, Aircuity offers a cost-effective solution that helps government facility managers reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, while reducing operating expenses. The resulting energy savings helps managers achieve a fast return on investment while showcasing their commitment toward creating a sustainable environment.

DCV Aids in High Performance Sustainable Buildings
Typical design practices in use today state that the way to properly ventilate a building is to fix the amount of outside air being delivered within a building at the design or peak occupancy levels, without regard to the fluctuation in occupancy occurring throughout the day. This conventional approach generally leads to over ventilation of the building, creating significant energy waste.

Aircuity’s smart solutions deliver significant energy savings through continuously monitoring critical indoor parameters and providing input to adjust ventilation rates as needed. This approach, known as demand control ventilation (DCV), allows building owners to not only save energy by maintaining a fresh air ventilation setpoint, but also provides a safe and comfortable environment for occupants. Aircuity Advisor Services provides owners with intelligent tools to ensure the building is operating at peak efficiency and to take a proactive approach in managing any potential issues.
